Dave Robicheaux and his ex-partner head to Montana for a break. But they are soon dragged in to an investigation into the deaths of a couple of hikers, which suggests that a serial killer may be at work, while an escaped jailbird and his former tormentor are locked in a battle that is connected to a terrible family secret.
